Summer in the Zillertal Arena

During the summer season the five Zillertal valley resorts Hippach, Gerlos and Zell on the Tyrol side and Krimml and Wald/Königsleiten in Salzburg offer a rich variety of leisure activities within the impressive mountain ridge of the Zillertal, Tux and Kitzbühl Alps.

There are a whole lot of new attractions for hikers in the Zillertal Arena: “Sunrise hikes” are offered in Zell, Gerlos, Krimml and Wald for hikers and Nordic walkers who want to experience the fresh air and dew-covered grass in the first hours of the morning when fauna and flora awaken to new life.

The “Hiking light” program focuses on nature and relaxation. Several mountain railways are open during summer and make the most beautiful hiking zones and alpine huts easily accessible for everyone. After a long day of walking and climbing many a hiker chooses to go easy on his joints and to return to the valley by railway or cable car.

Mountaineers will be thrilled by the wide variety of hiking trails and summits to climb. It is best to choose a guided tour with an experienced mountain guide, for example with Peter Habeler who has conquered the Mount Everest.

Those of you who want to link their hikes and walks with the extra special experience or get close to the country and its people are advised to choose the theme hikes of the Zillertal Arena. For example, you can taste regional specialties of the Zillertal valley on the “Schmankerlweg” on the Rosenalm. Other tours take you to the pilgrimage church “Maria Rast” or to a cheese diary or a gold mine.

Several Nordic Walking trails and guided Nordic Walking tours await the health-conscious visitors. A new 50 km running trail has been built in Gerlos. Apart from the scenic mountain views you can also rely on ideal coaching. Specially trained guides will join you during your exercises and offer practical tips and a lot of expertise.

Mountain bikers will enjoy more than 230 km of bike trails for all levels of riders. GPS data is available for all routes and can be downloaded here.

Fun and action are guaranteed in the Zell and Hippach leisure parks. In Zell, on an area of 45.000 sq. meters, you will find adventure outdoor swimming pools with a giant water chute, beach volleyball courts, mini-golf courses, adventure playgrounds, restaurants and much more.

The Zillertal Arena is the ideal place for families with children. Kids will enjoy the fun and entertaining adventure programs with well trained guides. Lama trekking or gold washing are only some of the exciting activities your kids are in for.

To experience authentic Tyrolean tradition you should pay a visit to one of the following events: Taste regional specialties at the “Zillertaler Schmankerlfest” on July 15 or 16 in Hippach. Watch the sheep festival “Schafschoade” in Gerlos on September 9 or the “Hohe Jagd” hunting festival in Wald.
